On 27 October 2004, Vopak Terminal Altamira in Mexico achieved a remarkable safety record: one thousand days without lost time injuries.

Vopak Mexico S.A. de C.V. acquired the Altamira Terminal in February 2002. When Vopak took over the terminal, financial resources were made available to make major improvements related to Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), in line with Vopak’s SHE policy. Further training programs where implemented and safety awareness among all employees and contractors was increased.

In 2003 the Terminal was certificated ISO 9001:2000, and it was the first terminal in the Altamira Port area which obtained the ISPS certification. Thanks to the commitment of all employees and contractors Vopak Terminal Altamira could achieve this excellent result.
